Wuzeerun is the name of a woman whose image I found in the New York Public Library’s archives. Hers was one of many images published in a book by The Government of India for London: India Museum in the year 1868. Wuzeerun is photographed sitting elegantly on a cushion. Her eyes embody a sharpness and a certainty while looking into the camera man’s lens. Her right hand lightly grasps her cashmere shawl while her left palm rests on her knee. She has a hooped ring on her right ear and a cross adorning her left ear. Her photograph cuts an oval at the center of a page which is attached to a rectangular label that reads:
                   Wuzeerun,
                   Bazar Woman,
                   Mahomedan,
                   Saharunpoor,
                         (165)
